SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DEL MOBILE
17-22 APRIL 2012 - Fiera Milano Rho / Milan Fairgrounds Rho
PAVILION 16 / D26
The focus of Artek's exhibition in Milan is on Ilmari Tapiovaara's work, especially the KIKI collection. The show also marks the launch of the Lento Lounge collection by Harri Koskinen, while the Artek lighting collection receives a new addition with TW002, a Tapio Wirkkala pendant light from 1951. Furthermore the exhibition features selected Alvar Aalto classics in bare birch.
TALKING ABOUT ACTIVISM
In its strategy, Artek emphasizes the importance of ceaseless development of design thinking. This implies a combination of high-quality operation and implementation in planning, production as well as marketing.
Enlightened consumers require background stories for products. Innovations can have no life without a future perspective. Need factors have once again taken center stage, disrupting the genre of desire-based consumption.
Artek's Manifest on the integration of aesthetics, ethics and ecology has more relevance in the present situation than in any previous decade. But its objective cannot be attained without education. Consumers today want to participate by making recommendations and transmitting propaganda, thus underlining the importance of dialogue.
Now is the time to boldly defend values, authenticity and origins. It is time to proclaim the significance of design, architecture and thinking, and their obligation to take a stand on the status and future of society and the individual.
