Stool 60 Kivet

Alvar Aalto, 1933

Buy Stool 60 Kivet

Stool 60 Kivet unites two iconic Finnish designs: Alvar Aalto’s famous 1933 “L-leg” stool and Marimekko’s Kivet (stones) pattern, created by Maija Isola for the Arkkitehti print series. The 1956 design was likely inspired by the large rough-edged stones manually cleared from the grounds of Isola’s atelier home. Marimekko’s joyful essence elevates the stool’s versatile design, adding a touch of playfulness to living spaces. The Kivet pattern is presented using marquetry on the stool’s birch veneer seat top. Contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect, as light, pattern and wood interact to bring the pattern to life.

Maija Isola's Kivet pattern shimmers as it interacts with light and movement
Artek + Marimekko celebrates what unites two iconic Finnish brands — bold and distinct identities shaped by architecture, nature and human-centric pragmatism.

The stool is made from responsibly sourced Finnish birchwood at Artek’s factory near Turku in south-western Finland. The craftmanship and materials used reflect Artek and Marimekko’s pursuit of long-lasting design, and the marquetry production process minimises wood waste.
