This edition of Bench 153B features Marimekko’s Seireeni (siren) pattern, created by Maija Isola in 1964 and inspired by the movement of water during her travels in Greece. The pattern’s name refers to the mythical sirens whose songs lured sailors at sea. The Seireeni pattern is applied using marquetry on the birch veneer seat, where contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect. The bench’s versatile design — equally suited for seating or storage — was a later addition to Alvar Aalto’s “L-leg” collection, introduced in 1945.
