Marimekko’s joyful essence elevates the versatile and functional Stool 60. The clean lines of Stool 60 meet with Marimekko’s joyful Lokki (seagull) pattern, created by Maija Isola. The idea for the Lokki pattern came to Maija Isola when she was looking at a window with a curtain drawn across it. The sun was shining, and the wide folds of the curtain formed wavy shadows on the fabric. The pattern is presented using marquetry on the stool’s birch veneer seat top. The contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect, brought to life through interaction between light, pattern and wood.

The stool merges two distinct design identities

The collection celebrates what unites two iconic Finnish brands — bold and distinct identities shaped by architecture, nature and human-centric pragmatism. It reflects Artek and Marimekko’s pursuit of long-lasting design, and the marquetry production process minimises wood waste. The product is made from responsibly sourced Finnish birchwood at Artek’s factory near Turku in south-western Finland.
