Welcome – Juslin Maunula visiting Artek

Artek and Juslin Maunula welcome you to the “Good everyday life” exhibition in Helsinki Design Week’s main venue at Merikortteli during 13.–17.9.2023 where the brands come together to celebrate sustainable aesthetics and appreciation for materials.

Stool 60 Villi 7

Once grown or produced, raw materials are valuable as such, and using them as widely as possible paves the way for more sustainable design. Artek's new products explore raw materials through a new visual standard of wood quality, use of recycled material and innovation. Juslin Maunula collection is created from high quality discarded textile from the past decades, giving a whole new life to the once forgotten material.

Stool 60 Villi

As a result of the collaboration between Artek and design studio Formafantasma, a new wood quality standard – wild birch – will be introduced to Artek's production, where the wood's natural variations in tone, such as darker core wood, knots and traces left by insects, can be seen. The new quality standard enables more extensive use of wood in the production of Artek's birch furniture. The Stool 60 Villi made of wild birch will be available in Artek's own stores and retailers from 7.9.2023. In addition to the Villi stool, small special batches of the stool created with Formafantasma will also be launched: Core, Knot, Trail and Bark each emphasize a specific characteristic of wood. These limited editions are only available in Artek Helsinki, Artek Tokyo and Artek's online store. In 2023 Artek celebrates the 90 years of Stool 60.

Premiere of the Tiili collection

Tiili, or ‘brick’ in Finnish, is a collection of everyday ceramic objects – a shelf, a vase, a candleholder and a wall hook – designed and made by ceramicist and designer Xavier Mañosa. Combining expert handicraft with industrial production. A continuous flow of clay is pushed by machine through bespoke dies, generating both external forms and internal grids. These give the clay strength, transforming a fragile, dense material into a durable, lightweight one. As the shaped clay emerges from the dies, it is skilfully hand-cut to produce individual pieces. The Tiili collection is available in blue, green and white glazes.

This relentless experimentation with materials and process, pushing at expressive and practical boundaries, is a feature of Manosa’s workshop on the outskirts of Barcelona. In this, his practice echoes Artek’s modernist heritage, with its syntheses of art and technology, and of industry and craft. As a result, Tiili possesses a unique blend of longevity, utility and beauty that perfectly matches Artek’s own design philosophy. After the premiere of the Tiili Collection at Helsinki Design Week the products of the collection will be exclusively available from Artek Helsinki and Artek Tokyo stores.

Classics in walnut

From time to time, the Artek Helsinki store has small special batches of Aalto classics. In addition to the walnut stained Stool 60 in the standard selection, our store will also receive 153 benches and 112B wall shelves in a beautiful tone of walnut. These products are ideally suited for furnishing a hallway or as individual products to complement the interior of your home.

Kori Collection complements Artek’s lighting collection

Launched in February 2023, the Kori Collection comprises five products, all with their own specific qualities. The exhibition at Merikortteli features the compact floor light that provides accent or reading lighting in larger spaces. In addition three pendant light and a table light are included in the Kori Collection. All manufacture of Kori Collection takes place within a 200km radius in Italy, and the die-cast “light basket” is made from 100% recycled aluminium. Longevity is guaranteed by the universal E27 socket, which ensures that light bulbs can be easily replaced.

Jumble by Juslin Maunula is born from textile industry’s surplus materials

The lifestyle product series "Jumble", launched in 2022, will be continued this fall with new colors, materials, and products. The starting point of Juslin Maunula design process has been a batch of high-quality surplus textiles. The new collection will also include a small edition of Juslin Maunula trench coats and, seat cushions for Artek's classics, 153A and 153B extending the use of once forgotten material even further.

The products in Merikortteli are available at the Artek Helsinki store! However, some of the products will arrive for sale later in the Autumn. Welcome!
