Opening in May, the exhibition Asetelma, suudelma & vadelma (Still Life, Kiss & Raspberry) invites viewers into the fascinating world of Armi Teva. With clay as her canvas she paints, using coloured glazes, in brushstrokes that are both mischievous and powerful. A visual artist, illustrator and ceramicist, Teva shows two new series of works at the exhibition: Lystit and Viivaa (Levity and Lines).

The Levity series are still lifes of fruits and objects, the Lines series are graphic blocks. In both series the works are made in relief, with the artist’s expression continuing over the sides of each piece. Having a sculptural depth, the surface of each piece when hung is raised up three-dimensionally from its background. In her series of works, Armi Teva leaves room for composition. The reliefs work well independently, but they can also be displayed in pairs or combined into small groups.

Armi Teva is an artist, illustrator and self-described ‘mad potter’. Her roots are in ceramics, glass art and design. From there she has expanded her form of expression into illustration and visual storytelling. Irrespective of materials and media, her works share similar characteristics: a rhythmic and bold use of colour and line, along with an essential passion for drawing.
